One of the key issues that dominates political discourse today is that of the environment. Alongside terrorism and global poverty, it presents one of the most pressing topics in the political sphere. One of the single most potent factors in this debate is that of the Conservation Movement, the social movement that seeks to protect natural resources, including plant and animal life. This article is a short introduction to nature conservation with some tips about how you too can get involved. [...]
Although the nation as a whole is changing in its views of homosexuality, there are still pockets where homophobia and intolerance run rampant. It is the job of several grass roots organizations to help spread a message of tolerance and respect, and educate people on the fact that everyone deserves equality in the United States.
Just recently the Arizona State Legislature tried to pass a bill that would allow local businesses the right to refuse service to people if those persons violated the business owner’s “religious beliefs.” Basically the bill would have promoted bigotry and intolerance, allowing business owners to legally discriminate against citizens for arbitrary reasons.
One political blogger tried to defend the bill, saying that it was the business owner’s rights as it’s a free country and the business owners are allowed to do whatever they want. The argument seemed logical, but it smelled funny. One commented pointed out that Civil Rights of the state (or nation) had precedence over someone’s opinion.
Clearly the mixing of church and state comes to mind here – what is the nature of civil rights? Some people do not think that human sexuality falls into a category that civil rights protects (and usually those people are of the religious variety). The question is whether or not sexuality is a genetic factor or choice (this question seems archaic these days, but let’s play devil’s advocate). The next question would be whether or not that matters.
The goal for many grassroots organizations is to right intolerance to the best of their ability and to promote human rights in these areas. Generally speaking, change is slow. However these days social media and the internet have seemed to increase the pace at which gay rights have spread, and how societies views as a whole are trending towards total acceptance.
The movement is akin to racial segregation in the 1950′s and 1960′s. Many people link the two together in similarity, however it must be pointed out that racial segregation was a bit more pronounced and violent. However this could be because it is impossible to hide or “pass” if you are an African American, whereas many gays can blend in in their day to day lives.
If you want to support grassroots organizations that are geared towards upholding civil rights but you don’t have the personal time to commit, then you can make a monetary donation instead. This will allow those organizations to continue their cause. We suggest finding out if any of the organizations you want to donate to have a website, and consider donating online using Paypal or another secure system. We also suggest that you do a clean sweep of your computer for any spyware software (you can get great anti-malware software tools online) so that you don’t run the risk of any of your data being stolen in the transaction.
Civil rights weren’t always a guarantee in America, and our checkered past is proof of that. We must strive towards our goal each and every day.
Recent violent and unfortunate gun crimes have spurred the US government to start seriously considering and implementing stricter gun regulation nationwide. The range of regulation has been sweeping and often haphazard, and some of the examples of gun control regulation that have since been discussed or enacted are:
- a ban on assault rifles
- a ban on extended magazine clips
- universal background checks
- move away from right-to-carry laws
- restrictive trigger lock laws
These measures are often enacted without considering the cost they can and will have on the US economy, and many of these measures may seem small at first. In actuality, however, a seemingly insignificant change can have a broad effect on both US economy and small businesses.
Economic Factors Involving Gun Regulation
Gun regulation can affect both short-term and long-term economic growth. A great example of a short-term effect on the economy is when regulation is proposed. Gun owners who are worried about impending regulation affecting their ability to purchase firearms may cause a surge in revenue as they buy firearms and firearm-related items before the ban (click here to get the facts on firearm-related items and sales).
Long-term effects can be a little tougher to predict. According to the NSSF, the firearms industry as a whole is a driving factor in over 210,000 jobs across America as well as over 9 million paid wages each year. It was responsible for a total of $31.84 billion generated in economic activity across the entirety of the nation, and that number’s not at all small change. Any regulation or legislation that would shrink or curtail the ability for gun stores to sell firearms and other related items would negatively impact those numbers and cause a net loss to the US economy.
Firearms sales also generate around $4.6 billion in tax revenue for federal and state governments. Regulation that decreases the amount of firearms sales and activity would also reduce this tax income for the government, and such a decrease would result in both a loss of jobs as well as a loss of tax revenue for the government. Both are undesirable in terms of long-term US economic growth.
Sensible and proper gun regulation, however, could help on both ends. Gun regulation that enables and encourages the purchase, creation, and procurement of guns while decreasing illegal sales of guns between criminals would not only keep the firearms industry alive and well but also maintain and even increase the tax revenue the government receives.
The bottom line is that gun regulation can be a double-edged sword for the US economy if created properly and sensibly. Proper regulation can increase firearms sales and ownership while also keeping law-abiding Americans safe, but reactionary gun control regulation that inhibits and hurts firearms sales and procurement will ultimately negatively impact the US economy both in the short-term and in the long-term.

Over the years, childhood obesity has become a very serious problem in the Untied States. The days of children going outside to play ball, ride bikes, and run around has been replaced with video games, the internet, and and cell phone. Children these days would rather be inside with electronics than outside getting exercise. This is part of the problem. The other part of the problem is eating habits. Most children will pick junk food over a healthy snack. Adults are lucky enough to grab supplements (some examples here) that boost health and energy to substitute for any missing nutrients where kids are not able to do so. It is the parent’s responsibility to watch what their children eat at home and it is the school’s responsibility to watch what the children are eating when they are there.
Many schools have already incorporated healthy lunches in their schools. Many schools offer chocolate milk, coffee milk, and white milk, however, it is all skim milk. Many schools have also changed their bread to whole wheat. When it comes to pasta, many schools have switched to whole wheat pasta. While the schools are trying to make their lunches healthier, there are other things that can be done.
Many high schools have a snack bar where students can purchase their lunch there rather than in the lunch line. The snacks offered in snack bars are not healthy. They include cookies, ice cream, chips, and candy. None of these choices are a healthy lunch option. Either getting rid of snack bars or offering more healthy foods like non-fat yogurt and fruit is a good way to be sure that students are eating healthy.
Many schools have vending machines throughout the school which offer soda and candy. Neither of these makes for a healthy snack. Schools should be filling their vending machines with water and fruit juice rather than soda which is high in sugar. Rather than vending machines containing candy, it can be replaced with nutritious granola bars and power bars. These treats are still sweet, however, they are much healthier.
Most school programs such as sports, drama, and band have fund raisers. Most times, these programs sell chocolate bars. While this is a good way to raise money, it is not healthy for the students purchasing the candy bars. There are other ways students can raise money. For example, 50/50 raffles are a good idea. The tickets would cost the same amount as a chocolate bar and the winner would receive half of the proceeds. It is a win-win.
Most high schools teach cooking and nutrition classes. When students are in these classes, they learn about nutrition and they learn how to cook. The teacher will give the students a recipe and the necessary ingredients and the students are required to create the dish and are graded on it. It would be a good idea for schools to teach the students to cook healthy dishes rather than foods that are high in fat and sugar. Teaching students to cook healthier can make them eat healthier as well. This art is not lost as children age and progress to high school where the right amount of protein and nutrients are 100% required, especially for people in sports. Certain hormones like testosterone (which can be supplemented by adults) can deplete with age, so it’s important to make sure a proper nutrition plan is in place as kids get older.
With obesity being the problem that it is these days, it is up to the school to do their part to help teach and instill healthy eating habits in our children.
It’s no surprise that the level of social interaction in the US is beginning to diminish. This is a factor of a multitude of things that have been plaguing the country for a number of years. Kids are just not as interested in socializing like they use to be.
Back in the day, the online form of entertainment was to go out and do something. People would gather for social hang outs and events. They would play sports or go camping and spend time around the fire telling stories to one another. Group activities were something of the norm and it wasn’t as common to see an individual staying at home entertaining themselves.
So what is the cause behind all of this? Many people are putting the blame on the advancement of technology. Technology has introduced new mediums of entertainment to the world. There are now plenty of things such as computers and videogames to keep childrens minds occupied. From the moment a toddler is strolled around to the moment that they grow old, they are surrounded by this new technology that entices their attention. Why spend time going out and making friends when one can do all of that online?
It’s not uncommon now for a person to spend a majority of their time in front of the internet or in front of the television. The average american watches 3-4 television shows per day. Time that may be otherwise spent with friends, is interrupted by peoples desire to not miss their favorite programs.
The growth of the internet has further added to this diminishment of social interaction. With sites like amazon and ebay, if someone wants to shop for something online like a stroller, it can be done online. Online ecommerce stores makes this easy by providing consumers with information on the best products all from one location. A good example of this would be this page which list reviews of the top strollers that are currently on the market. If someone was to otherwise shop in your typical retail stores, they would not be able to easily get honest consumer input.
While having internet and technology might seem convenient, we need to start putting more focus on some of the roots that made america the social country it use to be. Start bringing back an emphasis of sports and group activities to children in school. Start encouraging people to take part in more physical activities that will put them in front of people that share similar interests. While chatting on the internet might be entertaining, it’s much more rewarding to have actual conversations with people in person. The interaction is healthy and it will prevent people from turtling up and becoming a hermit.
Given all of this, i’m not suggesting that we abandon the technological improvements that we have gain all these years. However, I do feel that if we continue on with the current trends, then we may begin to lose one of the very natures that makes having a melting pot of cultures so great. The face to face interaction of people is simply one that cannot be substituted.
Politicians of all ideologies or political parties are constantly looking to communicate their message to voters in an effort to impress upon them why they are worth to be elected leaders, especially during election times.
In ancient Rome this was accomplished by standing on a raised platform and addressing the plebeians, the “common folk” in the city’s forum. Over time and with the invention of the printing press, it came to include distributed pamphlets and newspaper coverage. Then the introduction of the radio allowed those vying for office to address entire populations at once.
In modern election campaigns, television and the Internet have become the main tools of communication for electoral candidates seeking to get their message across to voters. Those politicians who use these communications mediums to their full effect gain an advantage.
I was recently discussing politics with a friend of mine who works as a Web business strategy consultant, mainly to organizations based in the UK, and he was telling me that an excellent example of this is found when comparing the website used by now re-elected US President Barrak Obama to the one used by the unsuccessful Republican candidate Mitt Romney.
Intrigued, I asked him to explain. He showed me their websites, and pointed out that at first glance they both appear to have everything one would expect from a politician’s website, before going on to explain that the differences between the two websites become apparent when examining how they perform when viewed by people using Internet enabled cellular phones.
The two websites both use different means of achieving “mobile responsiveness”, as Web developers call it.
Obama’s website is programmed to adjust its appearance based on the screen size of the device it is being viewed with. So users of all devices get essentially the same content experience.
Romney’s website, on the other hand, is programmed to detect when viewers are using a mobile device and funnel those users to a separate website designed for mobile use. But what was wrong with the way they implemented this approach was that only a fraction of the full website’s content was included in the mobile version.
My friend explained that this is a common oversight made by developers and Web managers who address the need for mobile device responsiveness with a separate site specifically for mobile users.
The absence of certain information from Romney’s mobile website left a lot of relevant questions unanswered to potential supporters, such as “what’s Romney’s background?”, “what’s his viewpoint on issue x?”, and “what can he do for my state?”
My friend went on to say that he recently supervised a Web project for a client in the UK health and fitness industry that sells fitness courses. He says he experimented with the same two different responsive Web technologies as were used on the candidate’s websites on two different pages for separate personal training courses assessment venues, one in London and the other in Manchester.
He observed user behavior on the two pages for a month, and found that the one with the same implementation as Obama’s mobile website achieved considerably higher average traffic retention times (the time visitors stayed on the Web page for) than the page with the same implementation as Romney’s mobile website.
He says that just like with the UK organisation’s London and Manchester webpages, he believes Obama’s website would have delivered a far more satisfying user experience than Romney’s website.
It is of course impossible to know whether Romney would have won the presidency if he his website had been built better, but a politician needs every possible advantage when trying to communicate his or her philosophies and ideas to voters during an election campaign.
Given that so many people across America would have been looking at those websites in the months leading up to that historic day when the votes were taken, I wonder just how big a difference the limited user experience for mobile users on Romney’s website truly made?
I’ve noticed a very cool but very weird trend lately. Maybe you’ve noticed it too. I’ve noticed a bunch of politicians taking up sports. I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately. Mostly, I’ve been thinking about it because I love sports. I’ve played sports all my life, and I try to keep myself active as I get older, so I like to go hiking and stuff. I also play in a flag football league. You get the idea: I think sports are important, so it’s really cool to me to see that there seems to be a trend of politicians embracing active lifestyles in a public way.
However, of course, I’m also very interested in politics. We spend a lot of our time on this blog thinking about and discussing politics. So, after I got over my enthusiasm, my next natural question was: why? Why are so many politicians taking up sports?
There could be a lot of reasons, of course, but it’s still fun for me to speculate (that’s, like, most of what we do here, anyway; hell, that’s most of what politics is!). So, here are my ideas:
- Some politicians are actually interested in being healthy. This is certainly a possibility. There’s definitely been a mindset shift in the United States regarding health. It didn’t used to be as cool as it is now, and a lot more people are starting to realize the immense health benefits of sports. One of those benefits, of course, is that you are much more alert and productive during the day. And, for most politicians, their days are ridiculous. Politicians pull long hours most of the time, whether you agree with them or not, and a good nutrition and exercise regimen can really help. So, I think at least a few public figures out there may have realized that it gives them an edge over their competition.
- Kickbacks. This is a weird one, and I’ll be the first to admit that it sound more like a conspiracy than anything. But, when Rahm Emanuel is jogging down the streets of Chicago in a different pair of name-brand shoes every day, it’s hard to imagine he’s not getting something for it. I mean, he’s putting the shoes in the news. That’s something, right?
- They are playing to the American public. Remember that mindset shift I was talking about earlier? People in the US are starting to think exercising is cool. Additionally, the public is starting to become much more worried about the state of the country’s health. On the whole, our country is sick, and we’re fat, and people are worried. This makes it very easy for a politician to appear as if he or she cares just by exercising. When you think about it, it’s a really great strategy, right? I mean, you don’t even need a platform. You just need to be able to say, “I you know what? I jog every single day, and I think it’s important.” And you’re golden.
Anyway, I’m rambling, but those are my ideas! Have you guys noticed this, too?
Most Americans are supporting strict gun control rules, but they do not like the idea of completely banning the guns because almost ninety percent of Americans believe in owning guns. In America, almost forty percent of homes have a gun. Most of them are legally owned. In America, hunting is a tradition. Even president Obama disclosed that he loves clay shooting.
Millions of Americans own guns that they use regularly for hunting, home defense and target shooting. Due to the high number of guns Americans own, the gun safety is an important issue. Policies are also an important factor to discuss, such as; the NRA is highly against the universal background checks before the purchase of guns. When Most Americans agree to it, the NRA continually denied the legislation. However, seventy-four percent of its members support universal background checks.
As about fifty-five million households in America own guns, it is very important to educate the community about the importance of safe gun management, keeping them away from children, criminals, and people who are not mentally stable. This will be a big step forward to cut the deaths and injuries caused by guns.
Politics and policies will not help educate people on gun safety. A firm initiative should be taken to educate the public on safe gun handling. For example, the NRA has ninety-three thousand certified instructors in the nation who have trained many people about gun safety. Every year this program reaches about 75000 people and it has taught about twenty-five million children about gun safety. This is the world’s biggest gun awareness program. With the help of the program, the children never touch the gun if they notice them.
Educating people is the best way in ensuring that accidental deaths from gun injuries are reduced.
According to the CDC, there was a 42.8% reduction in accidental firearm deaths. This has been because of educating people on gun safety.
The NRA supports a safety program that has played a major role in educating people on the need of keeping guns in locked places. This program helps people reduce gun injuries. The Harvard injury control research did a research and found that storing firearms in a safe place could save lives. The NRA has provided education to millions of Americans on gun safety. The training programs helped many people to learn the right things they need when dealing with the firearms. People became familiar with the right ways they need to make the best deal with their firearms.
Important Gun Safety Rules
Guns should be stored in a safe place to prevent unauthorized people from accessing. You should store your gun away from the ammunition. Even if the firearm is not with you, one thing you must consider is safety storage. Using the gun safety devices is highly recommended. Store your gun in a locked box, and for the most safety, use both the safety device and the locked container. To find the best gun safe that will best suit your needs, read honest gun safe reviews online.
Dentistry remains to be one of the most respected professions in healthcare that was practiced as early as 7000 B.C. With that in mind, it is easy to estimate how well dentists are compensated for what they do. Typical dentists in the U.S. had a median salary of $145,240 in 2012 according to http://dentistsalaryinfo.org. While this may sound lucrative when compared to other kinds of jobs, dentists are more concerned about the economic conditions of their practices.
Generally, dentists are keeping their fingers crossed about the current economic conditions of their practices more than they were during this time last year. However, new survey results indicate that they are still light years away from being fully confident about the issue.
ADA Health Policy Resources Center (HPRC) recently unveiled its fourth quarter results that were based on the Dentists’ Economic Confidence Survey. The survey indicates dentists’ views about economic practices on a scale of 0 to 100 whereby 0 indicates full pessimism and 100 indicates full pessimism. In the results obtained, the overall score was a mere 26, and this shows that dentists are pessimistic regarding current economic conditions in their practices.
Dentists, upon being asked how confident they were in the overall economic conditions of their practices six months in the future, reported a score of 12. This is a lower score than the one that was obtained in the fourth quarter of the year 2012 in which the dentists’ confidence in their current conditions was at a value of 14 and 18 for the future.
Marko Vujicic, the managing vice president of HPRC however holds a different perspective of the situation. He believes that even though the scores represent a tiny improvement when compared to the scores fourth quarter of 2012, these values are an indication that economic conditions in current dental practices are still challenging regardless of the economic recovery.
It is also worth noting that there hasn’t been a change in the dentists’ net income since 2009 regardless of the growth of the U.S. economy. The ADA also believes that demand for dental care will keep on the low end in the future, and its recently released report entitled “A Profession in Transition” outlines the reasons why this is bound to happen.
ADA, however, is coming up with a strategic plan for 2015 called the Members First 2020. This plan which was developed by ADA’s Board of Trustees takes into consideration the research that is obtained from HPRC as well as other economic factors. Despite the dramatic shift in the dental care landscape, there is need to help young members by providing them with practical resources and instilling the importance of oral health.
It is therefore easy to conclude that even though a profession in dentistry is well-paying, many dentists still fear over the looming nature of the economic landscape. The results from the Dentists’ Economic Confidence Survey has proved that dentists are pessimistic about economic conditions of their practices.
For many years, police services has been the most depended on institution and yet the least paid when compared to other institutions in US. The following are some of the reasons why police should be paid more in the United States;
First, the police always work in partnership with citizens, liaising with individuals and groups when doing investigations on wrongs committed by some specific members of the US. This definitely makes them among the busiest people, yet least paid compared to other professions in US.
Police officers also go through very difficult police training. Not everyone can make it through this training, so the supply of police officers is sometimes low.
They also provide visible presence by deterring crime and reassure all the citizens of the security and peace. This makes them very important for the common citizens who cannot afford to hire their own security. In addition, they often conduct their patrol duties by car, on foot, and by bicycle while accessing some of the remote states in US to keep law and order.
Police officers are also responsible for developing citizen’s knowledge to identify locations as well as individuals at risk of getting involved in any form of crime. This definitely makes them the sole providers of security for many people in US. Never forget that they also respond to requests and calls from the citizens to help at incidents in times of emergency by calling 911. This has helped in many occasions to save lives at the same time billions of property from being stolen or destroyed.
They also responsible for keeping the peace and order at public meetings, processions, social events, trade disputes and even strikes in case of a security threat. They often do this by diffusing volatile situations especially with due regard to safety of the people. Most of them often act with sensitivity especially when dealing with these situations of conveying news of sudden death to any family or sexual crimes thus making them very important in the society.
These police officers also conduct initial investigations, taking statements, gathering evidence, and complying with the relevant legal requirements. They often do this by interviewing suspects, witnesses and victims in accordance with the relevant legislation. In addition, they also conduct arrests with regard for human rights, health, safety and security of detained individuals, colleagues, members of the public, and self. They always do this by preparing crime reports at the same time presenting files to the senior officers for prosecution. Most of them also attend while giving this evidence in court during the hearings. How do they do this? First, they start by completing the administrative procedures and submitting criminal intelligence and internal crime reports. They also investigate before taking action on the information received from the members of public.
Finally, they also gather, record and analyze intelligence to achieve the community safety as well as crime reduction objectives before advice on providing crime prevention. Others also take direction on the specific duties from the senior colleagues by attending to the road-related incidents such as collision scenes, traffic offenses and vehicle checkpoints. This enables them to enforce road traffic legislation as well as issuing fixed penalties for the relevant offenses when dealing with any lost property.
In conclusion, the above are some of the reasons why police need to be paid more in the United States.
We have a new drug pandemic to worry about. These illegal drug users are not on the streets or back alleys of urban settings, but in every dorm in North America. This drug use isn’t to get “high” but to get higher grades.
Police authorities are also having a hard time tracking and controlling the use of these smart drugs. The problem is that these Schedule II drugs are easy to get illicitly because of the large number of ADHD sufferers who have them. Any person with a prescription can easily give away or sell these medications illegally. Unfortunately, these amphetamine smart drugs are a necessary evil and one of the only truly effective treatments for ADHD.
The most common smart drug being used in colleges is Adderall. It is basically, legal meth and students are using it to improve their grades. Adderall and other smart drugs work to improve the signals in the brain that keep us alert and focused. This allows the student to stay awake and focused for long periods of time which can help improve their studying and overall grade.
Using these smart drugs come at a serious risk. First off, they are highly addictive. People with ADHD who are prescribed these drugs know the risks and these risks are accepted. For people without ADHD, the risks just aren’t justified. Thousands and thousands are hospitalized every year from both legitimate and illegitimate smart drug use.
A Medical Students Recommendation against Smart Drug Use…
We were lucky enough to interview a medical student, Adam Black on a Colorado campus. He was well aware of the illicit smart drug use in his school. Adam told us at least 3 out of 5 students were or had been using Adderall during school. He expressed grave concern after one of his friends had been sent to the hospital due to cardiac arrest.
Adam no longer uses Adderall as a study aid. “Our schooling is very intense and often our schedules do not allow us time to cram all of our studies. So I started looking for alternatives”, Adam told us. Adam was told by a friend about the aniracetam nootropic. His friend has been using these so called nootropic supplements for some time.
Nootropics are basically brain enhancement smart drugs with little negative side effects. This is because they work on different parts of the brain than ADHD drugs. They improve cognitive function without acting as stimulants of the central nervous system. The neurotransmitters they work on are also non-addictive so they are a much better alternative to smart drugs.
Adam was curious and decided to do more research on nootropics. “When I did research on nootropics I found that they were very safe not like these ADHD smart drugs”. Adam ordered the nootropics, piracetam and aniracetam along with choline from a reputable nootropics store online.
During the past few weeks Adam has being using this nootropic stack with great success. “I did surprisingly well in my last exam and had no side effects. I can tell this is more than placebo. I will be using nootropics long term.” Adam told our team. Hands down nootropics are a better alternative and perhaps a solution to the growing smart drug pandemic.
Politics can affect a great majority of markets in our country, but you might not expect it to influence the housing market. The housing market, however, is just as temperamental and prone to fluctuation as any other market. Politics can directly affect new laws that can influence key taxes, such as a land transfer tax. See the land transfer tax calculator here. In addition, politics can greatly affect the moral of a country – happy, confident consumers will drive a housing market up, while frightened and unhappy consumers will bring it down.
Here are just a few ways that politics… local, national, and foreign… can affect the housing market as a whole.
Canadian Housing prices and mortgage rates will fluctuate prior to any presidential election, as the populace will be largely unsure of the fate of the nation. All parties will be hoping that their political candidate will win the election… and most will be convinced that they will, indeed, win… but there is always the chance that they will not.
Due to this lack of faith and stability in the future of their nation, most consumers will be unwilling to spend a great deal of money in any investment, including new housing. After all, how will they know what the economy will look in a few months if their political candidate does not win the race? This fiscal fear can lead to a dip in the housing market, and market specialists will often bite their nails prior to election time.
A New President
With any new president comes a shift in the country’s overall perspective, and not all of it will be positive. Residents of our country will be expecting a shift in economic stability – the winning side will expect a positive outcome, while the losing party will expect a negative one.
Those who voted for the new president will be glad to see the shift, and will be willing to invest in larger purchases… especially new housing. Consumers who are thrilled with the results of an election will be hopeful for the state of the economy, hoping to further fund the new president’s previously illustrated plans for economic growth.
Those who were unhappy with the results of the election, however, will be largely unwilling to put large amounts of money into the economy when it’s headed by a figurehead they do not agree with. By the very definition of elections, these people should be the minority – this means that the housing market should see an upward turn upon the completion of elections and the swearing in of a new president.
Even a shift in foreign politics, if they are closely reported and/or tied with our nation’s interests, will directly affect the prices in the housing market. Any negative news can shift the housing market downwards, depending on how it is reported by our media sources.
A surprising note is that, in recent years, positive foreign news has rarely affected or housing markets positively or negatively.
When you pop in those earbuds for cycling and set out for your daily ride, what are you expecting? Well, if you are like most cyclists, your expectations are for a nice peaceful ride that gets your body some much needed exercise, gets you in tune with nature and maybe even gets you a little Vitamin D from the sunlight. Possibly the last thing to ever appear on your list of expectations is inhaling the pollen from those genetically modified crops in the field that you ride past. But with an ever increasing amount of land being allotted to growing those GMO crops, inhaling that possibly toxic pollen is just what could be happening when you take those rides.
Over the recent years, the anti-GMO grassroots movement has been steadily growing. It is being primarily fueled by people who want to be able to eat food that has not been modified in any way. Why? Because there are some health concerns when it comes to putting this possibly harmful “food” into our bodies. But as more and more awareness grows out of this grassroots movement, cyclists and other people who might come into contact with the GMO pollen and pesticides are becoming aware of it’s potentially ill health effects.
In fact, a recent article in Discover Magazine notes that this grassroots anti-GMO movement has really been gaining some ground in 2013. But unlike some of the anti-GMO activism that has been going on in Europe in recent years, the grassroots activists in the United States are not taking to the fields to destroy crops and generally vandalizing the areas where these crops are being grown. Instead, the activists that are a part of this movement here in the United States are going about it in an entirely different direction. They are seeking out lobbying groups and law makers who can assist them in finally getting some legal groundwork laid when it comes to these genetically modified crops.
Like many concerned citizens across the world, the anti-GMO movement in the United States points to the fact that there just is not enough science available to determine the safety of these genetically modified crops. According to that same article in Discover Magazine, the number of crops that are genetically modified and being grown in the United States is staggering. As of late 2013, it amounts to 90 percent of all the soy, cotton and corn planted in the country. So, if you are a cyclist who rides by any of those fields, then there is the potential for some possibly ill health effects over the long term.
So far, only animal studies on the GMO crops and have been and they have shown some alarming results. These studies are being used by the growing anti-GMO grassroots movement as a reason for needed regulation on the crops and seeds. It remains to be seen what, if any, legal steps will be taken to control or limit the prevalence of these crops in the United States. One thing is certain, however, that this grassroots movement is only getting stronger.
